Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment?

To make an appointment, you can simply email: info@sheknowsink.com

To streamline the process, please include the following information:

1. Your ideas/references
2. An approximate size
3. Placement of the tattoo
4. Any additional information that you can think of that you may want incorporated in to your design etc.
5. A specific artist you had in mind

Why do I have to pay a deposit?

Paying a deposit will secure your bookings and acts as security for not only you, but for us as well.

How much is the deposit?

The deposit amount is normally 40% of the total cost of the tattoo.

What happens to the deposit?

The deposit amount is deducted off the total amount of the tattoo. So you end up paying the difference on the day of your appointment.

Are deposits refundable?

Deposits are non-refundable as they are there to act as security for the the artist's time.

How does the design process work?

Once you have an overal idea of what you are wanting your piece to look like and the artist understands your ideas, you will need to pay the deposit for the design process to start. Once the deposit is paid, the artist will start with your design. If you'd like to see the design before hand, we normally will show it to you in a week advance otherwise it can be seen on the day of your appointment and if any changes need to be made, it will be made then.

Do you have a catalogue?

We do custom pieces, which means that we will create a piece for you so that you are the only one that will have it. All of our artists also have flash (Designs that they have drawn themselves) that are available as tattoos, flash pieces are also normally at a discounted price.

Why is color more expensive?

Color is often more expensive as it takes longer for the artist to do. There are several reasons why, however if you would like to know more, you can click the "Read more" button above.

What is the minimum price for a tattoo?

We have a minimum charge of R750 for a "micro" tattoo. This will apply for a piece that is very simple and is roughly the size of a R5 coin.

Do you charge per hour or per piece?

We have hourly rates (which differ per artist) however sometimes we instead charge per pieces, this is normally for flash pieces.

How does a full day work?

Full days are generally for bigger pieces, a full day is at a slightly discounted price. A full day is from 10am until 5pm (if you tap out before then, you are still liable to pay the full day rate.

I'm a first timer, what do I need to know?

Your first time getting a tattoo is definitely a very exciting experience, but also can be a bit of a nervous one, there's a few things to know (for a in depth explanation, you can click the "Read more" button above.) But basically, please do not consume any alcohol or drugs at least 24hours before your appointment (otherwise we may not be able to tattoo you), make sure you have eaten a big meal before hand, and have had lots of water. Also make sure you have had a shower before your appointment and wear comfortable and appropriate clothes for where the tattoo location will be.

What do I need to do before and on the day of my appointment?

How do I pay?

We have card facilities in store, or you can pay with cash.

Deposits can be made in store or via EFT using a special reference that will be given to you.

Do I have to tip my artist?

Tipping isn't compulsory, however if you are able to, it would be great. Tattooing is a service, and most service industries do favor tipping as a way to thank the person for their specialized service and attention to you as a client. A professional artist won't be upset if you don't tip, however, if you make the impression that you're a good client then it will work in your favor as you build a good relationship.
